Trilobite

"Kasachstania" gerardoi

• Silurian
• Catavi Formation
• Araca (Department of La Paz), Bolivia

Size: 10.5 cm

Originally labeled Kazachstania andii, but actually more consistent with "Kasachstania" gerardoi, which has been excluded from the genus Kasachstania. This dalmanitid trilobite currently has uncertain generic assignment and may be of a new, undescribed genus closely related to Kasachstania (Randolfe et al. 2020).

It is unclear how many complete specimens of this trilobite have been found from Bolivia; this part and counterpart example may be one of the best of its kind. The species was described from highly fragmentary material consisting of partial cephalons, thoraxes and pygidiums, and the holotype is just a pygidium (Edgecombe and Ramsköld 1994).
